Venkat Selvamanickam

Ph.D., Technical Advisor to MetOx

An M.D. Anderson Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Professor of Physics at the University of Houston, and also the Director of the Applied Research Hub of the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston (TCSUH), Selva is one of the world’s most highly respected and well-known technology thought leaders in the high temperature superconducting wire community.

Previously, he was the Chief Technology Officer of SuperPower Inc., a former subsidiary of Philips Electronics. He led SuperPower to multiple world-records for the highest performance thin film HTS wire over several length scales; the longest thin film HTS wire made and first to pilot manufacturing. He also led the world’s first significant delivery of thin film superconductor wire to build a power transmission cable in Albany, NY, which is the world’s first demonstration of a thin film superconductor device in the power grid. Selva has published over 245 papers and holds over 80 issued patents.

An expert adviser, Selva works closely with MetOx staff to improve HTS wire manufacturing, and offers invaluable technical and product-specific strategic consultation.
